Letters, Sept. 21, 2024: ‘Former-president showed a measure of courage’

Article content

Mr. Snobelen’s article (Sept. 13) seems to suggest Trump lacks some courage to face reality. His analysis seems off-base to me. Getting shot at in the head and getting up after and raising your fist definitely suggests courage to me. ABC allowed the Democratic party’s reality to go unchecked. Media seems to accept the Dem’s party’s reality even when it’s a blatant misquote lie taken out of context. The cats-and-dog thing seems far-fetched but in today’s world nothing is completely out of the question.

(Former-president Trump showed courage, and continues to go out and campaign even after a second apparent assassin was caught)

Managing the Quebec issue

Poilievre’s message to Quebecers must be that Canada is a family. Every citizen is an equal member of this family. No family member can care about only themselves, saying they are special and deserve special treatment. Poilievre is the leader for our times. He must speak with confidence and courage. He must speak of respect for one another and individual rights. He must speak of the true nature of our country and our Canadian family.

(The Quebec question is one that has tripped up many a federal leader. Curious to see how he manages that question.)

Concerned about AISH

I am writing to express serious concerns about changes to AISH policy. I am a social worker, and my current role involves in-patient support for individuals who live with chronic and severe mental health conditions (e.g., treatment resistant schizophrenia). Even though our facility is a treatment centre (i.e., not permanent housing), AISH has recently changed their policy to define our site as an institution, thereby allowing them to deny applications based on residency eligibility criteria.

A question of ethics

Re: Ethics. So the mayor and council see the provincial takeover of the Green Line as ‘bullying’?
What hubris! They have had free reign for three years. I would remind our mayor and councillors that Ms. Gondek declared a climate emergency one day into her term. She didn’t campaign on climate alarmism. Council then approved $87 billion to deal with this phoney emergency. This not only constitutes major taxpayer bullying, in my opinion, it borders on a criminal-level ethics violation. Not on.

JOAN FRIEDRICH

(In politics, ‘bullying’ is very much in the eye of the beholder.)
