Letters, Sept. 18, 2024: ‘City ran LRT into the ground’

Article content

I think most Calgarians were relieved to find out the responsibility for the development of the Green Line will be turned over to the Province. Clearly, a city administration that cannot ensure a dependable supply of drinking water to its residents was not remotely capable of overseeing the construction an LRT leg that would have essentially gone nowhere. And that’s just where our mayor and most of council are heading.

What’s the story, Quebec?

So I ask myself, how long does it take the province of Quebec to become self-sufficient? Here is a province gifted with natural hydro power, likely a strong natural gas resource if they desired, always protected as a distinct society and surely to be allocated with a new industrial opportunity like a new battery plant or pharmaceutical bomb out during COVID. Oh, and let’s not forget how much federal money has gone from Canadian taxpayers to support their aeronautical industry Bombardier. My god, this province has its own federal party which is presently considering to lend support to the federal Liberals in exchange for more gifts from the rest of Canada. Now, to my original question, why is Quebec, a province, full of so much natural resources, able to pull approximately $14B/year from equalization payments? When is the second-largest populated province going to be sustainable and off the Canadian teat?

Blame PM for protests

The Coutts demonstration, along with the Freedom Convoy protest in Ottawa, could have been so easily avoided. All Canadians needed was a prime minister displaying some guts, backbone and a good set of family jewels. Instead, the Canadian electorate voted in incompetency and dysfunctionality in the form of Pierre Trudeau’s eldest son, some nine years earlier. It’s quite tragic to say the least, when ‘leadership attributes’ are only found in a dictionary and not a nation’s prime minister.
