Letters, May 18, 2024: ‘The two sides of campus protests’

Article content

I have never been more proud to be an Albertan. As campuses around the country are paralyzed in ‘inclusive’ fear, as antisemitic euphemisms and encampments expand, our province’s major universities have nipped this medieval ‘progressiveness’ in the bud. Both the U of C and the U of A quickly shut down these encampments before they became entrenched, using existing laws, rather than navel-gazing, and attempting to equivocate the moral equivalency of the opposing sides. Unlike other universities around the country, they took a courageous and moral stance. Well done, folks!

Stop shielding Israel

Have we all gone completely insane? Why is the media so focused on condemning protests at college campuses rather than condemning human rights abuses in Gaza? Do we not care about free speech and human rights? Are we so determined to shield Israel from legitimate criticism that we would throw away our Canadian values? It’s abundantly clear that the college students are protesting the human rights abuses committed by Israel, but the media keeps pushing the absurd narrative that they’re antisemitic.

Liberals dropped the ball

On the first week of the Trans Mountain pipeline pumping oil, I think it is important to remind Canadians of the facts. The original owners of this “approved” pipeline did not ask Canadian taxpayers for a penny of investment. Kinder Morgan only cancelled this pipeline after this Liberal government created hardship for the company with ever-changing regulatory goalposts and project delays caused by environmental protesters with zero action by this government to have the RCMP punctually enforce Canada’s Criminal Code. As a result, the Trudeau government bought the pipeline and Canadians quickly learned that Liberals couldn’t manage a pipeline company any better than they could manage a passport office. The cost overruns of $34 billion are the result of the dysfunctional management of the Trudeau Liberals.
