Letters, June 16, 2024: ‘Trudeau & crew stonewalling on foreign interference’

Article content

Re: “Show more respect for integrity of our system” (Editorial, June 8). It is always said that the cover-up is always more egregious than the original crime. As if there was any doubt we know, as CSIS had predicted and the Hogue inquiry has now verified, China directly interfered in the 2019 federal election. Now Trudeau is not only refusing to turn over 1,000 documents to this inquiry, but also is refusing to come clean and inform Canadians the identities of those MPs who benefitted from China’s help. The fact those seeking public office would accept China’s help should greatly alarm everyone who values democracy and who wants clean elections. This repeated stonewalling is coming from Trudeau who promised in 2015 to run the cleanest and most transparent government ever. It seems a safe assumption based on sworn testimony from former Conservative leader Erin O’Toole it was not his party that was directly involved with China. O’Toole has repeatedly claimed that China’s interference cost his party nine or more ridings. Canada is being run like some dictatorship under the Trudeau government that continues hiding damning information from citizens.

(We need transparency. Trudeau needs to shine a light on this so Canadians can have faith in the integrity of their democratic institutions. You have to wonder: What is he hiding — or who is he protecting?)

Liberals have to go

I love my country. The current government hates it. Every day this corrupt government gets worse and worse. Throwing every Liberal out of government is not enough anymore. Trudeau and Freeland need to be charged with treason. I think they cover up scandals and shield people from the truth which I, as a citizen of this country, have the right to know. Someone can put this government away with what they know. Blow the whistle on these useless people!

(The Liberals need a sound and convincing defeat in the next election.)

Bring on Bill 20

Nothing like a little dab of Bill 20 to help remedy the unpleasant situations in government today. It’s no wonder why the UCP government’s proposed bill is causing such a stir with a few political personalities in both civic and municipal governments across Alberta. Bill 20 is like the flashlight being shined in a darkened barn. I guess at the end of the day, integrity and accountability are two bad words in politics today.

(Let’s hope it is used sparingly.)
