We attended the Conservative party Stampede BBQ July 6 and were inspired by Pierre Poilievre’s heartfelt speech. Despite the mess made by the Justin Trudeau-Jagmeet Singh government since 2015, there’s hope for Canada’s future because change is coming with the federal election in 2025. That’s when the Liberals and NDP will be swept from power and replaced by a good, common-sense government. We can’t wait!

Backwards thinking

While walking through the Stampede on Sunday, I marvelled at all the people taking pictures of the big letters spelling Yahoo — from the wrong side! It then dawned on me. Oohey would actually be a better city slogan for us, as most of what comes out of the big blue playpen (to quote Rick Bell) is backwards. Where do I collect my $5.8 million?

Olympic ideals

As the Paris Olympics approach, the question arises: Should every nation be allowed to compete? I say ‘yes’ since it makes no sense that a group of athletes should be excluded and held accountable for the actions of a government they cannot control. Far wiser to ban those who orchestrate, execute and profit from war; leaders including Trudeau, Biden, Macron and Merkel, Putin and Zelenskyy, Netanyahu and the Hamas leadership, whose wars in Gaza and Ukraine have killed, maimed and driven millions from their homes. Given that their victims will not be attending the Games, how can we justify welcoming those most responsible for their suffering to celebrate? Truth is, proscribing war-mongers would leave the VIP section rather empty, but then again, these people have more important things to do; namely, finding a peaceful solution to the horror and the mayhem they’ve unleashed.

MIKE WARD

(Punishing athletes for the actions of their governments does seem a tad unfair.)

Never again

There are too many failures to try and list under Trudeau’s reign. This guy and his merry band of corrupt Liberals have destroyed our country financially, divided the country, sent many Canadians into poverty and destroyed the dreams of our young Canadians. My only question is to anyone who voted for him in the last three elections, why on earth would you even consider voting for him again? Do you not want to see our once great country back where we should be?

BARRY HARRIS

(Fewer people are still considering it.)
