Canada’s lose-lose position
Article content
It seems there are only two ways we can win this trade war with Trump. One is to convince him to have pity on us and allow us to sell our products in his marketplace … to the detriment of his own people. The other is to let us be part of his nation. How did we get to this lose-lose situation?

A gift to Carney
Re “Trudeau’s team goes all in on Carney while Clark implodes” (Brian Lilley, Jan. 11): We remember the coronation of Justin Trudeau and now seem to be witnessing the coronation of Mark Carney! One would think going from someone whose previous job was as a part-time drama teacher to a former governor of the Bank of Canada and Bank of England would be a huge upgrade. However, Carney will deliver the same ideologically driven policies as Trudeau. Carney may be even more radical with his views on climate change. In fact, Carney was an adviser to the UN on climate change and fiscal policies. To make matters worse, Trudeau is ‘gifting’ Carney his chief advisers who helped him get Canada in its disastrous current situation. These are Gerald Butts, who advised Trudeau on climate change and cannabis, and Katie Telford, who was Trudeau’s gate-keeper and obstructionist.

(No one should expect anything different from Carney. He is not the ‘outsider’ he claims to be and will be an extension of Trudeau’s policies. So with that, of course the Liberals are going to vote him in)
Bad plan
Danielle Smith once again thinks she is smarter than Harper, Kenney, plus all the premiers and territory leaders. Flies to Mar-a-Lago waving her Chamberlain Appeasement Proposal in her hand. Two days later Trump addresses WEF Davos business leaders to say that there is nothing including oil that the U.S. needs from Canada. The Postmedia columnists write that Canada is already as good as the 51st State. Smith, hold a referendum on your plan, or better yet, call an election.

(So the feds’ possible strategy of shutting off or taxing oil exports is a good way to win this thing?)
Mulling a run
I am seriously thinking about throwing my hat into the ring to be the next Liberal leader, but I’m afraid I will be arrested for littering!
