Letters, Jan. 18, 2025: ‘Smith needs to join Team Canada’

Article content

Premier is wrong not to sign onto the united Canadian agreement to fight Trump’s proposed tariffs. Being part of a united response for Canada is more important than Smith’s narrow-minded agenda propelled by a narcissist right-wing world view.

(Many Albertans are on her side. Read on…)

Hands off our oil

Doug Ford can go pound salt both with his stupid ballcap — a poor attempt at imitating Trump’s MAGA hat — and with his supposed alliance with our lame-duck prime minister using any tax money from Alberta oil to fund the Ontario auto industry. It’s Alberta oil, not Ottawa oil, and Albertans have a long memory when it comes to trying to suppress our resources. Premier Smith is our Iron Lady and she will never back down from eastern creeps and bums who think they know better. Back off!!

BRUCE HAYNES

(She is certainly taking the bull by the horns.)

Defying Eastern Canada

Good job, Premier Smith. Quebec exports approximately $6 billion in electricity to the eastern U.S. Let’s put a stop to that. It would get immediate attention.

(You’re not wrong.)

Proud Albertan

My admiration for Premier Smith only increases over time. Recently she has been trying to build constructive bridges to the incoming American administration, opening new markets for our energy. President Trump has fairly asked that we must improve the protection of our borders. Yet, instead of addressing the border concerns, the Trudeau Liberals want to start a trade war, sacrificing our province’s energy industries. The other weak premiers are supporting Trudeau on this. Even NDP Nenshi is supporting Trudeau’s attack on our industries. Stand strong, Premier Smith. The good and decent people of Canada are with you.

IAIN FOULDS

(It would be nice if the feds were, too.)

Carney the consultant

Mark Carney has worked at various jobs, notably quite a bit outside of our country. The Liberals like to bring in outside consultants to do the jobs that someone else is/has already been paid to do. Why don’t the Liberals call it what it really is? Carney is nothing more than a consultant being interviewed for the position of their party leader.

LORI CRANK

(And it seems they want to give him a coronation as their leader. Carney will have to twist himself into a pretzel to try to distance himself from the Trudeau Liberals, for whom he has been advising for a few years)
