Letters, April 20, 2024: ‘Lots of green for the colour blue’

Article content

So according to Rick Bell’s column of April 18, the City is spending $4.8 million to rebrand our city as the blue sky capital of Canada. Back in 2013, the City spent $471K of taxpayers’ dough to erect a giant blue ring on an overpass on 96 Ave. in the N.E. What’s with this city’s fixation with the colour blue? What a waste of taxpayers’ money. Again. There is no need to promote the colour blue in this city. I think most Calgarians have a chronic case of the blues just thinking about how much money is continuously wasted by their out-of-touch councillors and municipal bureaucrats. I think it’s becoming exceedingly difficult to see our blue skies through the overcast ineptitude emanating on most days from City Hall.

(Seems plenty of folks around these parts are singin’ the blues.)

Doesn’t add up

So Calgary has an extra $238 million to add to their already inflated surplus! Yet, we Calgarians get the shaft with an almost-8% property tax increase. There is something extremely wrong with that picture: All kinds of money in city coffers, but city services like filling potholes, repairing bus shelters with no glass, running three-car LRTs into four-car platforms go by the wayside. I’ve about had enough of Gondek and the Hateful Eight in her circus, time to drain the swamp.

(It does appear there needs to be a serious shift in priorities.)

The Big Bribe

The highly anticipated federal budget has now been tabled by Christia Freeland, but not before bits and pieces of it were already presented by Trudeau himself in his Canada-wide vote-buying photo-op tour at taxpayers expense, producing a carbon footprint the size of Mt. Everest. This is the Liberals’ new way to present a budget and bribe gullible Canadians with their own money while they plunge this country further into unthinkable debt. How long can this charade continue?

STEVE MAZUREK

(We’ll see how Canadians respond.)

Wealth-care question

PM Trudeau said: “this budget is to redistribute wealth in Canada.” Has Justin Trudeau redistributed his wealth, yet? I laugh when wealthy socialists want to redistribute wealth, but it’s never their own. It’s always someone else’s.

J.R. ANDERSON

(Our PM seems happiest when playing with other people’s money.)
