Stamps Fall On The Road

VANCOUVER – It was a back-and-forth battle on Saturday night in Vancouver but the BC Lions pulled away late to take a 26-17 victory over the Stampeders.

The loss drops the Stamps to 1-1 on the season while the Lions move to 1-1.

Marken Michel and Reggie Begelton had receiving touchdowns in the loss.

STAT PACK

Jake Maier – 339-yards passing, two touchdowns, one interception.

Dedrick Mills – 11-carries, 46-yards, 99 receiving-yards.

Jalen Philpot – five-receptions, 56-yards.

Cam Judge – five tackles, two tackles for a loss.

After a defensive stop both ways to begin the game the Stampeders put together a nice drive that ended with a Jake Maier to Marken Michel connection into the endzone to make the score 7-0 early.

That would be all the scoring in a tight first-quarter.

The Lions found the pay-dirt early in the second-quarter but their extra-point was blocked making it 7-6 Stampeders.

BC intercepted Maier on the next drive off a deflected pass however the Stamps defence would hold strong and force a punt which rolled into the endzone for a single to even the score 7-7.

The Stamps ended their next drive with a field-goal from 13-yards out to regain the lead, 10-7.

The Lions got the ball with a short field to work with and put up a major just before halftime to go up 14-10.

The Stamps put up seven on their first drive of the second-half as Reggie Begelton made a highlight-reel catch in the back of the endzone to make the score 17-14 Calgary.

The Lions evened the score once again with a field-goal midway through the third making it 17-17.

BC punched it in from a yard out following a long passing play to take the lead. The Stamps blocked their second extra-point of the night making the score 23-17 Lions.

The Stampeders went for it on third-and-medium from the Lions side of half but were unable to get the yards necessary and turned the ball over on downs halfway through the fourth-quarter.

Calgary was driving again with just under four-minutes to go but the Lions forced, and recovered, a fumble to take the ball away.

BC would add on a late field-goal to make the final 26-17 Lions.
