If you’re looking for a unique day trip in Alberta this summer and you want to avoid the crazy crowds, you might want to set your sights on Vulcan!
It is the ultimate stop for Star Trek fans, sharing a name with the homeworld of one of the series’ most beloved characters, Spock. While the name share is just a coincidence, the town seized the opportunity to capitalize on it by building a world-renowned tourist centre dedicated to the popular show.
You don’t have to be a Trekkie to enjoy a visit to Vulcan, though, as there are some great cold drinks and outdoor activities also on tap.
Don’t forget your camera either, because this small town has some great spots for some rural photography!
Vulcan Starship Enterprise
While you don’t have to be a Trekkie to get a kick out of the town, its most appealing feature is definitely the giant Starship Enterprise statue. It is impossible to miss and is the perfect monument for Star Trek lovers. The replica of the original Starship Enterprise was officially unveiled in 1995. The centrepiece of the town is a must-see for anyone going to Vulcan.
Trek Station
The information centre in Vulcan was built to look like a landed space station and is home to a large collection of Star Trek memorabilia and tourist information from around the county and the province. As you enter the building, the floor-to-ceiling space mural of the Trek Station will have you feeling that you have stepped into outer space. It has recently been updated to give you the best experience.
Spock Bust
Leonard Nimoy actually unveiled this statue himself back in 2010. At the time, he said he never had an experience as touching as that one. His “live long and prosper” handprint is also on display, making it a must for Trek fans around the world. The town celebrates Spock Days in June every year.
Nine in a Line Brewing Co.
If you want some refreshments, be sure to stop at this local brewery. They have a number of great drinks and snacks for you to enjoy.
Vulcan Golf and Country Club
Bonnie French (a guest of one of our members) came all the way from the U.S.A. to get a Hole in One (Hole 16) on September 15. Congratulations! pic.twitter.com/jrbFSuyIgf
