Fans are well aware of the fact that Calgary Flames co-owner Murry Edwards has some deep pockets. But just how rich does he rank compared to some of Canada’s wealthiest individuals? Thanks to Maclean’s magazine, we have a pretty good idea.
The people on this list own grocery stores, hotels, restaurants and wineries. You may not have heard all their names, but they’re definitely part of your lives.

Maclean’s magazine released a list yesterday morning detailing Canada’s 40 richest individuals. There were several recognizable names throughout, including Edmonton Oilers owner Daryl Katz, who sits 29th on the list with an estimated worth of $5.84 billion.
Edwards doesn’t rank quite that high, though to be on this list at all you obviously boast exceptional wealth. The 64-year-old ranks 35th on the list, with an estimated worth of $4.6 billion.
“Murray Edwards transformed Canadian Natural Resources from a four-employee operation into one of the biggest oil and gas producers in Canada,” a snippet from Maclean’s reads. “He currently serves as chair and has a $2-billion stake in the company, along with holdings in Vancouver-based mining company Imperial Metals Corporation, oil well driller Ensign Energy and Magellan Aerospace, which designs and manufactures components for the aerospace industry.”
Edwards heads the ownership group known as Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation, which serves as the owner of not only the Flames, but the Wranglers, Hitmen, Roughnecks, and the Stampeders, as well.
Edwards has been linked to the Flames for 30 years, becoming a co-owner in 1994. The team has had its fair shares of highs and lows during that time, the highest of the highs being their run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2004, which saw them fall just one-game shy of their ultimate goal.
Under Edward’s guidance, the future is beginning to look quite bright for the Flames. Not only do they have a new arena coming that they expect to be ready for the 2026-27 season, but they suddenly have some very intriguing prospects who point towards an exciting future.
