If you want to add some Christmas cheer to your change, the Royal Canadian Mint has got you covered with its holiday coins.
The Mint’s one-of-a-kind Christmas coins come in all shapes and sizes and encapsulate the joy and cheer that make the holiday season so jolly and bright.
From an adorable snowman to an intricately designed snowflake, check out these collector’s coins currently available on the Royal Canadian Mint’s website.
Produced by MKS PAMP, the Royal Canadian Mint’s latest release is the perfect holiday gift for the coin collector in your life. The $2 coin is shaped like a truck dusted with snow. Instead of a licence plate, it’s adorned with candy canes, and behind the wheel is a snowman wearing a top hat and a scarf… because why not? In the back of the truck is a fully decorated Christmas tree.
“There is nothing more iconic of Christmas days past than a trip to the farm for a holiday tree!” reads the Mint’s website. “A festive snowman bringing the tree home in a vintage little red truck completes this nostalgic scene on a pure silver 1 oz legal tender coin.”
It retails for $144.95 and has a limited mintage of only 3,000. It’s packaged in a blue booklet with details about the coin, and each coin is individually serialized.
This beautifully designed coin pays homage to the Sugar Plum Fairy — one of the most recognized characters from The Nutcracker ballet.
“Beautiful, loyal, and kind, the Sugar Plum Fairy reigned over the Prince’s wintery kingdom, populated by candies and sweets, after a magical spell transformed him into a wooden nutcracker soldier,” states the Mint. “This magical character is portrayed on a 1 oz. pure silver legal tender coin applied with vibrant colour and housed in a special ornament-style hanger capsule.”
This collector’s piece has a face value of $2 and retails online for $149.95, with a limited mintage of 2,500.
Continuing with the theme of The Nutcracker, the Mint also has a very cute coin-shaped and coloured to resemble The Mouse King.
This 99.99% silver coin pairs perfectly with the Sugar Plum Fairy and also transforms into a hanging ornament.
The coin has a face value of $2 and retails online for $149.95, with a limited mintage of 2,500.
This second coin in the Mint’s snowflake series is crafted in a hexagon shape, featuring a magnified view of a stellar dendrite, which is the most common snow crystal shape.
“Re-created in 99.99% pure silver, this particular snow crystal, which would have formed at temperatures around -15 degrees Celsius, is elaborately ornamented with distinct markings on a hexagonal motif that provide the illusion of symmetry, while the ice-blue crystal at its centre evokes the crisp winter sparkle of freshly fallen snow,” notes the Mint.
The 99.99% silver coin comes in a keepsake box and is low mintage as only 7,500 are available to collectors. It has a face value of $20 and retails online for $139.95.
One of the Mint’s most adorable coins, this piece is decorated with cute Canadian animals trimming a Christmas tree.
What makes this coin particularly special is that it is made with lenticular technology that changes the imagery on its reverse from a daytime to a nighttime scene. This piece has a face value of 50 cents and is selling for $34.95 with a mintage of 30,000.
It comes encapsulated in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded clamshell with a black beauty box.
