Toronto Raptors superfan Nav Bhatia is feeling the love back in his home country.
This week, Bhatia found himself as a clue on the Indian game show Kaun Banega Crorepati.
Hosted by popular Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan, the show is an official Hindi export of the popular Who Wants to Be A Millionaire franchise.
Bhatia shared a bit of the backstory of the question asked about him, which was centred around his induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2021 and his favourite sport.
“The boy asks for expert help. The expert has no idea, but his son plays basketball, and because of his son Neil, he has heard of me in India. He gives the boy the right answer, and the rest is history,” Bhatia wrote in the post. “Blessed to be acknowledged on such a big show.”
Bhatia is a day-one season ticket holder of the Raptors and has been the subject of both a CBC documentary and an upcoming biopic starring Kal Penn. He attended every Raptors home game in Toronto from 1995 through 2021 until a COVID-19 exposure forced him to watch from home.
Immigrating to Canada from India in the early 1980s, Bhatia has been widely credited for helping to promote diversity and inclusion at Scotiabank Arena and throughout the Canadian basketball landscape. In addition to his philanthropy and basketball fandom, Bhatia also owns several car dealerships in the Greater Toronto Area.
Last summer, Bhatia even found the time to fly across the world to watch Canada make history at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, with the team winning a bronze medal at their best-ever finish in the tournament.
