It’s great news for pickleball fans in Alberta, with a mammoth US-based indoor pickleball chain announcing it’s eyeing up opening numerous locations in the province.
The Picklr says it is planning to open more than 65 new indoor pickleball clubs in Canada to “meet the needs of a rapidly growing pickleball community.” The next five years will see more than 500 courts at 65 facilities, occupying more than two million square feet of light industrial and retail space across the country.
Daily Hive reached out to the company to find out how many locations the province may see in the future.
Mark Arndt, chief growth officer of The Picklr Canada, stated that it’s hoped to have 15 to 20 locations in Alberta over the next five years, adding that real estate will be a key factor in determining where the first locations are; however, interested franchisees have already popped up in Calgary and Edmonton.
“With more than 400 Picklr locations already sold across nearly every state in the US, and with the sport’s popularity continuing to explode on both sides of the border, expanding to Canada was a no-brainer,” said Jonathan Fornaci, Utah-based president and chief operating officer at The Picklr, in a news release.
A typical Picklr Club features between eight and 14 indoor courts, dependent on real estate availability and lease rates for appropriate properties, the size of the local pickleball community, and several other factors. A population of 100,000 that meets a threshold mean income level would normally support a Picklr Club.
