LA Kings are going back to their Gretzky-era logo full-time

The LA Kings have announced a new rebrand which has fans all across the NHL full of excitement.

Beginning next season, the Kings will have a different logo, a reimagined version of their iconic logo from 1988 to 1998.

“You’ve seen this before, but it was just a logo,” said Kiefer Sutherland, who the Kings had narrate a hype video they released on X. “Just an expansion team, breaking new ground for hockey. At first, it was just a goal, until it became a miracle. Later, it was just a trade, and you witnessed greatness. We were just the eight seed, now we’re in the rafters. We were down 3-0, the rest is history. The thing about history, the more things change, the more they stay the same. But then again, it’s just a logo.”

“This has been an extensive and collaborative process, and we are thrilled to roll this out to our fans and the city of Los Angeles,” said Kings president and Hockey Hall of Famer Luc Robitaille.  “This evolution is rooted in our 57-year history and embraces the elements of our eras.  It also involved interface and feedback with players both past and present, and it sets the stage for extensions and new iterations in the future.”

Though the Kings never won a Stanley Cup while wearing the original logo, they had some fantastic teams during that span thanks to special talent in players like Gretzky, Robitaille, and Jari Kurri. This rebrand seems to have given fans plenty of nostalgia, and they are extremely excited about it.

Though some fans were hoping that the Kings would also go back to their old-school purple and yellow jerseys, they still seem to all be thrilled with today’s news.
