Remembrance Day is coming up on Monday, and Canadians across the country will take time to reflect and pay their respects to the fallen soldiers who lost their lives fighting for our country.
Businesses across Calgary will operate under adjusted hours, including various closures, on November 11 in observance of Remembrance Day.
We’ve rounded up a list of what is open and closed in the city on Remembrance Day 2024.
Open
City of Calgary services
On Monday, on-street parking will be free for everyone in ParkPlus zones. Calgary Parking parkades and surface lots will operate using weekend rates; however, veterans (with veteran plates) will be eligible for free parking.
The city landfill will operate under regular hours on Monday.
There are also many Remembrance Day ceremonies happening across the city to observe.

- Field of Crosses (Memorial Drive between 3rd Street NW and Centre Street)
- The Hangar Flight Museum (4629 McCall Way NE)
- The Military Museums (4520 Crowchild Trail SW)
- Canadian Pacific Memorial (CP Memorial Square, 7550 Ogden Dale Road SE)
- Calgary Highlanders Remembrance Day parade (Central Memorial Park from 10 am to noon)
Calgary Transit
Calgary Transit will operate on Monday at a Saturday level of service, and veterans and their accompanying family members will be able to ride transit for free.
Select leisure centres and amenities
The city will offer free swimming on November 11 from 1 pm to 2:30 pm and 3 pm to 4:30 pm at the Acadia Aquatic & Fitness Centre, the Bob Bahan Aquatic & Fitness Centre, and the Thornhill Aquatic & Recreation Centre.
Free public skating will be offered by the city on November 11 from 1 to 2:15 pm at the Murray Copot Arena, the Optimist/Blunden Arenas, and the Kohn/Condon Arenas.
Paid swimming and skating will be offered at Southland and Village Square Leisure Centres on Remembrance Day.
Malls
Many Calgary malls will be operating under adjusted hours on November 11.
- CF Chinook Centre: 11:05 am to 6 pm
- CF Market Mall: 11:05 am to 6 pm
- The CORE Shopping Centre: 11:15 am to 6 pm
- Marlborough Mall: 11 am to 5 pm
- Sunridge Mall: 11 am to 6 pm
- Southcentre Mall: 11:05 am to 6 pm
- Westbrook Mall: Noon to 5 pm
Closed
Red Line
The Red Line will be closed between Lions Park Station and downtown starting Saturday, November 9, until the morning of Tuesday, November 12. Shuttle buses will replace the northbound train service between 7 Street Station to Lions Park Station, and southbound train service between Lions Park Station to 8th Street Station.
Road closures
There will be several short-term road closures to accommodate Remembrance Day ceremonies on Monday.
For the Field of Crosses ceremony on November 11 from 9 am to noon, the following road closures will be in place:
- Eastbound & westbound Riverfront Avenue SE access to the Centre Street Bridge will be closed from 9 am to noon
- Eastbound Memorial Drive NW to northbound Centre Street will be closed from 9 am to noon
- The right-hand lane on westbound Memorial Drive NW will be closed between the Centre Street underpass and 3rd Street NW between 6 am to 1 pm
For the Calgary Highlanders Remembrance Day parade at Central Memorial Park on November 11 from 10 am to 1 pm, the following road closures will be in place:
- 13th Avenue SW will be closed between 2nd and 5th Street SW
- 12th Avenue SW will be closed between 2nd and 4th Street SW
- 4th Street SW will be closed between 12th and 13th Avenue SW
The following road closures will be in effect from 8 pm on November 8 to 1 pm on November 11 at 26th Avenue SE:
- 26th Avenue SE closed between 11th Street SE and Dartmouth Road
- 11th Street SE closed between 23rd and 26th Avenue SE
Calgary Public Library
Calgary Public Libraries are closed on Remembrance Day.
Canada Post
Canada Post will be closed on Monday, November 11. There will be no collection or delivery of mail on that day.
Leisure centres and amenities
Most indoor pools, fitness centres, arenas, and arts centres will be closed on Monday. The Calgary Soccer Centre will also be closed.
