“Dude, that’s $1 million!” Construction worker wins big after 30 years of playing the lottery

Like many, Randal Moffitt had hoped to win the lottery one day. It would take decades before he finally got to live his dream.

Moffitt is a construction worker from Brampton, Ontario. He says he’s been playing the lottery for 30 years and even picks his numbers — a combination of special family dates.

One day, he stopped for his weekly lotto purchase, opting for a Lotto 6/49. At the time, there was a pretty sizeable Gold Ball prize worth $56 million.

When he checked his ticket on the OLG app after the May 29 draw, he couldn’t believe it: he had matched the White Ball winning number 57373098-02. He was now $1 million richer.

“I checked my ticket on the OLG app and asked my coworker, ‘Does this say $1,000?’” recalled Moffitt. “My coworker said, ‘Dudethat‘s $1 million!’”

Now that the moment he’d been dreaming of had finally come, he found himself overwhelmed by his first big win.

“In that moment, I was in pure shock and disbelief. I sat down on my chair and started to cry — I was speechless,” Moffitt continued. “I took a screenshot and sent it to my wife.”

While at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his windfall, the brand-new millionaire said he already has plans for his money: he’ll use his winnings to pay off his mortgage, invest, and donate.

“You always dream this kind of thing will happen to you,” he said.

Moffitt’s winning ticket was sold at Southgate Smoke & Gift on Balmoral Drive in Brampton.

The next Lotto 6/49 draw is set for Wednesday, June 12, and the Gold Ball prize is now at $64 million.
