Celebrity restaurant sightings in Calgary that had us starstruck this year

The restaurant scene in Calgary is booming, and it looks as though a fair few celebrities have taken note, with some huge names dining in the city over the last year.

Calgary restaurants, bars and clubs saw a host of stars visiting from rappers to Bravo-lebrities. Here are some of the biggest celebrity restaurant sightings in Calgary in 2024.

Legendary Canadian chef and star of the smash FX show The BearMatty Matheson, paid a visit to Charcut while in town this year.

While at the restaurant, Matheson stopped to snap a photo with staff, including owners Connie DeSousa and John Jackson.

“One of @mattymatheson many superpowers is making people laugh by just being his authentic self… he is one of a kind,” Jackson said in an Instagram post.

Iconic Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice spent some time in Alberta and even revealed some of her favourite eateries that she visited.

Giudice told Dished she had visited Mister M, a sophisticated supper club and cocktail lounge in downtown Calgary, where she enjoyed bites including a charcuterie board and a Ribeye steak.

“What I loved is they brought a dessert boat out with all different desserts on it and a sign that said ‘Welcome to Mister M Teresa,’ with sparklers and everything. It was really cute,” she added.

It really was all about the Bravo stars this year, with infamous Vanderpump Rules duo Tom Sandoval and Tom Schwartz scheduling appearances in Alberta.

Despite professing his love for Canada earlier this year, it seems like Schwartz may not be a fan of a Canadian classic.

Sharing a photo to his Instagram story, Schwartz revealed that he’d opted for a Bloody Mary over a Caesar, issuing an apology to all Canadians.

“Bloody *mary’s not *Caesars. I’m sorry, Canada,” Schwartz posted.

Though not in Calgary city limits, the Chuckwagon Cafe in Diamond Valley received a visit from Canadian royalty when Shania Twain showed up in June.

Susan Green, a server at the cafe, told Dished that Twain had visited the cafe with her husband and friends, and at first, the staff just thought she was another tourist checking out the beautiful Alberta foothills.

“It actually wasn’t until the service was over and we were moving on to desserts that I realized when she ordered banana cream pie that it was Shania Twain,” she said.

Green also praised the star, adding that Twain “was just lovely across the board.”

One of the biggest acts that performed at the Calgary Stampede in 2024 was the Jonas Brothers. In an interview with iHeartRadio, Jonas shared what he’d gotten up to in the city and even shouted out one of Calgary’s most popular restaurants.

“We had a great time in the city. We got to go get a great bite to eat at a place called, I think, Ten Foot Henry,” Jonas said.

While Jonas didn’t dish the details of what he ordered, it’s safe to say he thoroughly enjoyed himself.

“It was a great spot. We love that place,” he added.

Post-show, Jonas also revealed they had grabbed a drink and food in Calgary’s Mission neighbourhood.

After previously hitting up Montreal and Toronto, former Vanderpump Rules and current star of The Valley, Jax Taylor, was spotted in both Edmonton and Calgary earlier this year.

Taylor was visiting Calgary and Edmonton for sold-out hosted brunches, and fans were quick to post clips of themselves doing shots and chatting with the self-proclaimed number-one guy in the group.

Earlier this year, it was confirmed that Top Chef would be heading to the Great White North, with Kristen Kish and Gail Simmons wasting no time in exploring all the great eats Canada has to offer.

While Calgary is packed with fine dining restaurants, the pair opted for somewhere a little more low-key but no less tasty.

Kish, who recently took over from long-time Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi, shared a photo with Simmons outside the iconic Inglewood Drive-In in YYC, where the pair enjoyed the spot’s famous soft serve.

US rapper Flo Rida was spotted partying at Calgary nightclub Papi following his show at Cowboys Music Festival. The hitmaker behind “Low” and “Right Round” was also joined by rapper Oya Baby at the club.

“A big shoutout to @official_flo and @oyababyy for coming through yesterday! The vibes were just amazing. You better not have missed it,” Papi said in the Instagram post.

R&B superstar Ne-Yo, behind hit songs such as “So Sick” and “Miss Independent,” was also spotted at Papi after his Calgary Stampede performance.

Ne-Yo was also joined by rapper Ja Rule, who was performing in the city.
