Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with President-elect Donald Trump after Trump threatened a 25% tariff on Canadian products.
The Associated Press reports that on Friday, Trudeau flew to Florida and had dinner with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago club. An official who wasn’t authorized to speak publicly said that Trump and Trudeau discussed various topics, such as trade, border security, defence, Ukraine, NATO, China, and pipelines.
In a statement on November 25 on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump said that he would “sign all necessary all documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% Tariff on ALL products coming into the United States, and its ridiculous Open Borders” as one of his many first executive orders.
“This Tariff will remain in effect until such time as Drugs, in particular, Fentanyl, and all Illegal Aliens stop this Invasion of our Country!” he added.
On Saturday, Trudeau thanked Trump for dinner, adding that he’s looking forward to working together again.

Many stated that meeting with Trump was “the right call.”
“I’m not sure Trudeau has Trump’s respect, but no doubt this meeting will be positive for Canada (and the US), and it is absolutely the right call,” wrote Redditor willab204
Dull_Swordfish_2408 commented, “It’s funny how much everyone is chirping him when it is his literal job as a leader to meet with Canada’s biggest ally.”
Reddit user mistercrazymonkey agreed, stating, “I’m one of Trudeaus biggest critics, but this is literally his job as our leader.”
“Dislike Trudeau all you want; he’s certainly deserving of the criticism, but he’s doing exactly what he should right now. I suspect he can lay the charm on pretty thick when needed, and Trump likes being courted,” wrote Careless-Proof-5489.
User 3rn3stb0rg9 stated, “I hope Trudeau stands his ground.”
However, others criticized Trudeau, calling him “disingenuous.”

Another hit back at Trudeau’s critics, stating that the comments are “an absolute outrage.”
“It doesn’t matter what he does. The guy flies to a meeting of world leaders and conservatives immediately start screaming, ‘Oh nice, flying around the world while groceries keep getting more expensive!’ Or god forbid he takes a weekend off with his family; it’s an absolute outrage,” wrote SamirRashaman14.
