Calgary’s first Chick-fil-A continues to draw huge crowds and drive-thru lines

Chick-fil-A has finally opened its first standalone location in Calgary, drawing massive hype from fast-food fans.

The location opened its doors at 10 am on Thursday, November 7, and keen Calgarians told Dished they had waited around 12 hours to be among the first in line for the US chain’s first YYC outpost.

However, the demand didn’t seem to wear off as the day went on, as Calgarians on TikTok shared clips of enormous lines and tons of traffic heading towards the restaurant at 9223 Macleod Trail SW.

One user, @scarface91_, shared his trip to Chick-fil-A and documented the opening day chaos.

“Cops are here,” he said, showing a clip of blue flashing lights near the restaurant.

The video also showed hundreds of people in line, where patient guests were also given chocolate chip cookies while they waited.

“Three hours later, we made it in,” he said in the video.

Despite a long wait, the TikToker wasn’t disappointed with his meal, giving it a 10 out of 10.

Plenty of fellow Calgarians also took to TikTok to show some of the opening day scenes at Chick-fil-A, including huge lines for the restaurant and drive-thru.

In a TikTok posted by @hacksfromhails on the evening of opening day, lines of cars were filmed along Macleod Trail from the Save On Foods at Heritage.

Others who were also driving on Macleod Trail confirmed that the traffic stretched as far as the CF Chinook Centre and alleged that wait times for food at the drive-thru were around two hours.

“The traffic started at Chinook mall, and then when we got to the entrance of the drive-thru, it was two hours,” one person commented on the TikTok.

“It’s been like that all day. Me and my mom wanted some at around 12, we saw the line and left,” another added.

A lot of Calgarians were not into the idea of lining up for so long to try out the new Chick-fil-A.

“I have questions, comments and concerns for the people that actually waited in this line,” one person commented.

“How do they still have chicken?” another added, questioning just how much chicken Chick-fil-A would have stocked for opening day.

Many added that while they’re excited to see Chick-fil-A open in YYC, they’re happy to wait for the hype to die down before trying.
