As Calgary continues to grow on the world stage, our city just got a major profile from National Geographic thanks to its similarities to an American city.
The iconic magazine touted why you should visit Calgary over Denver, Colorado, and it outlined some pretty good reasons that make YYC so attractive to visitors and residents alike.
National Geographic called Calgary the “ultimate travel option to the Mile High City with more days of sunshine, close proximity to outdoor adventures in the Rockies, and more.”
The publication pointed to one of the biggest things YYC has to offer: the Calgary Stampede, saying it is “quite adept at blending a cowboy culture with cosmopolitan flair,” while also calling Calgary a town, which is a little off, considering the City of Calgary has a population of nearly 1.5 million.
National Geographic also goes all in on the winter activities offered in YYC, giving the skating rink at Bowness Park, walking at Nose Hill Park, and of course, WinSport shoutouts, as well as the Chinook winds we get to experience often during the winter months.
When it came to things to do, the Confluence Historic Site & Parkland, strolling around Stephen Avenue, a trip to the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo, and the Telus Spark Science Centre were highlighted by the Nat Geo team.
Calgary has been red-hot with recognition lately, being ranked among the best cities in the world and the best city to live in Canada. We love to see it!
