The Calgary Flames will have a much different look in tonight’s game versus the Detroit Red Wings.
The Flames are less than two days removed from a massive trade with the Philadelphia Flyers that saw Jakob Pelletier and Andrei Kuzmenko shipped out in exchange for Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee. The Flames also sent out a 2025 second-round pick along with a 2028 seventh-round pick as part of the deal.
While both players are expected to provide a significant impact for the Flames, the biggest get was Frost. The 25-year-old gives the Flames the centre-ice piece they’ve been after, and to no surprise, he will get an opportunity down the middle this evening.
#Flames projected tonight vs. Detroit:
Huberdeau-Kadri-Farabee
Coleman-Backlund-Coronato

As per Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960, Farabee will slot in on the top line alongside Nazem Kadri and Jonathan Huberdeau. Frost, meanwhile, will centre the third line with Yegor Sharangovich and Martin Pospisil on his wings.
Both Farabee and Frost appear to be in line for some time on the power play, too. Frost will be on the top unit this this evening, while Farabee will get a crack with the second group.
#Flames powerplay units:
PP1: Kadri, Huberdeau, Coronato, Frost, Weegar
PP2: Coleman, Farabee, Sharangovich, Andersson, Barrie

These lines indicate just how much this recent traded improved the Flames. Not only does it allow for Sharangovich to move back to the wing, but they will only get more dangerous once Connor Zary is able to return from his injury.
The Flames announced new numbers for their two new additions yesterday as well. Frost will be dawning No. 16, while Farabee will wear No. 86. He’s taking that number over from Rory Kerins, who, if recalled by the Flames at any point this season, will rock No. 6.
Thanks to a big win over the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night, the Flames have jumped back ahead of the Vancouver Canucks for a wild-card position. They’ll be looking for similar results tonight to help give themselves a bit of breathing room in the standings.
