Calgary cocktail bar posts emotional goodbye as it will close its doors soon

We’re sad to report that we officially have our first major restaurant closure of the year in Calgary. Sensei Bar has revealed it will be winding down operations next month after more than three years.

The chef-driven sake and cocktail bar, which has been a fixture on 14th Street SW since opening in 2021, shared the news on social media and announced with “heavy hearts” that it will officially close its doors on February 2.

“This decision was not made lightly, and while it brings sadness, it is accompanied by deep gratitude for all of you who have been part of our story,” Sensei Bar said.

“Your support, loyalty, and love have meant everything to us. Each visit, shared dish, and conversation has shaped what Sensei Bar has become—far more than just a restaurant.”

Sensei Bar is known for its menu, which is inspired by Korean and Taiwanese cuisine, as well as bao buns. It also has an extensive sake list and a carefully curated cocktail menu.

Fans of the spot still have a short window to visit ahead of its closing. While Sensei Bar will be departing from Calgary’s restaurant scene, its sister restaurant, Olea, will not be affected by the closure.

“Olea carries forward the same commitment to exceptional hospitality, scratch-made dishes, and a dining experience rooted in love for great food and great people,” Sensei Bar added.
