Questionable driving seems as though it’s becoming a trend in Calgary, with bad parking jobs frequently caught around the city. So, it’s no surprise that a recent video of a driver cutting lanes has riled up locals.
A video shared on Reddit captured a driver making a last-minute dash across lanes to make their exit and promptly cutting off another car that was in the correct lane.
Why more and more people are driving like this?

Over 300 people flocked to the comments to give their two cents on the situation, with some making sarcastic comments about the driver and others expressing their outrage.
“‘I turn now. Good luck everybody else!’” one person joked.
“A good driver sometimes misses their exit. A bad driver NEVER misses their exit,” another user pointed out.
Others shared that they think this situation reflects the bigger picture of driving in the city and that more tickets could be issued for driving offences.
“I believe it’s gotten worse with more that have moved here out of province. I grew up driving here and never seen the crap like is happening in the past five years or so,” a commenter shared.
“Same scenario in the video has happened to me and you honk like seriously and they give you the finger. I actually had to buy a dashcam for my work truck cause it’s getting ridiculous. I probably could drop off my video card at the police station every evening and they could write at least five to eight tickets off the footage,” the user continued.
Many commenters shifted the discussion away from this specific driver and instead expressed anger at the systems that should issue penalties for unsafe driving.
“The social framework that had repercussions for shit like this is gone. We are deteriorating into a society of animals where it’s either ME or WE. Me is winning,” one person wrote.
Another user simply wrote that this happened because “no one will stop them.”
“Absolutely. The reliance on photo radar and red light cameras has taken actual policing off the roads. No one has much to worry about with speeding or bad driving habits cause no one is enforcing the laws,” someone responded.
In addition to people expressing their outrage at the lack of policing around bad driving, some shared how they believe instructors need to exercise more stringent judgment when issuing licences.
“We need to make sure driving schools and registries aren’t cutting corners to make quick buck. We need more enforcing laws and regulations. And sometimes people are just stupid,” one person wrote.
