Adorable stray Calgary cat likely abandoned finds its fur-ever home

An adorable stray cat called Gus was given a second chance through a life-saving surgery thanks to some help from the City of Calgary.

The city shared that the Calgary Animal Services Centre is providing necessary medical care to stray animals across the city to help them live long and healthy lives. The latest happy ending is Gus.

Gus was a stray cat that was found struggling with a severe breathing issue due to extremely narrow nostrils. The city shared that it suspects a previous owner abandoned Gus because of his medical condition.

If the city hadn’t found him, his condition would have gotten worse.

Luckily, Gus soon received life-changing surgery from Dr Jagjit Cheema, a Veterinarian employed with Calgary Animal Services. Cheema performed a rhinoplasty that enlarged his nostrils, alleviating his respiratory problems and improving his quality of life.

Not only was Gus soon breathing without issues, but he was also then adopted by an animal lover who spotted him on the shelter’s impound list.

“I wasn’t aware that the Calgary Animal Services Centre offered adoption services until I saw an ad on social media. When I saw Gus’ sad little eyes, I knew I had to meet him,” his adopter Jonie Doris said. “He was sweet and calm, and the staff were so excited when I came to visit him.  He wanted belly scratches from day one.”

It was a happy ending for Gus, with Doris sharing that he loves to “look out the window, suntan, and sleep on his bed” at his new home.

“Gus just fits right into the family. It feels like he’s always been a part of the household,” she said.

Gus isn’t the only stray the Calgary Animal Services is hoping to help. The city shared that the service remains dedicated to helping stray animals receive the care they need to ensure their well-being and help them find a loving new home.

How adorable!
