Thrifters in Calgary will have a brand-new spot to hunt for deals, with Goodwill set to open its newest location in northeast YYC.
The non-profit chain is hosting a grand opening at 10 am on December 19 at its new Sunridge location at 2930 – 32nd Avenue NE.
To celebrate its grand opening, the first 150 people will get a scratch-off card to save on their purchases.
In early 2023, Goodwill announced its plans to open more than 40 stores in Canada over five years as more and more shoppers turn to thrift stores.
“In the last decade I have seen a change, and particularly since [COVID-19] as there has been more ethical shopping and people wanting to shop with a conscience and because thrift enables reuse, recycle, and repurposing – they are obviously more ethical than fast fashion, which is one of the world’s biggest polluters,” president and CEO of Goodwill Kelly Duffin said.
Goodwill has been busy in Alberta lately, opening a new store just outside of Edmonton later this week.
