A big new development is on the way for one of the most popular areas in Calgary, with a 16-storey apartment building set to make its mark on 17th Avenue.
The mixed-use building, named Francescos, will be located on the corner of 17th Avenue SW and 5A Street SW.
The project is set to combine four adjacent lots, forming a larger corner property with commercial units along 17th Avenue and residential properties along 5A Street SW, according to the building’s architect, Daas Architecture.

The building mass on 17th Avenue will be reduced to six storeys, while the taller 16-storey tower is set back, “respecting the character of 17th Avenue”, according to the project’s architect.

Construction on the lot is currently underway, and the building, which is set to contain more than 200 residential units and more than 8,000 square feet of retail space, is scheduled to be ready sometime in 2026.
