A local country music duo say they are heartbroken after being robbed of their gear, not once, but twice in just three weeks time.
Brandi Sydorik, one half of Calgary’s Nice Horse, tells CityNews the pair are trying to pick up the piece after having $45,000 worth of music equipment stolen from her storage unit in the city’s north-end.
The band was getting ready to play a charity concert for Jasper wildfire relief in Edmonton the night after the learned they had been robbed.
“The entire locking mechanism fell off in my hand,” she said. “Right then, I knew someone had been in there.”
What makes the theft more devastating is the duo had the same storage unit robbed on Aug. 26, and was in the process of finding a new place to keep their equipment when the second theft occurred.
“How much more can they take from us?” asks Sydorik. “It’s so tough to know that everything you use for your livelihood has disappeared just like that.”
“You feel absolutely helpless. I remember looking into the storage unit and thinking how does this happen to somebody twice.”
The band has been working closely with the staff at the storage facility and Calgary police, but Sydorik says she’s hopeful someone will be able to return it.
She says if it’s being sold online it will likely look out of place since it’s not equipment typically used by amateur musicians. Each piece should also have a Nice Horse sticker on it.
A GoFundMe page has been setup to raise funds for Nice Horse to be able to buy new gear. According to the page, the duo were about to announce a month-long tour in October that will not be possible unless they replace their equipment.
