What’s open and closed in Calgary on Thanksgiving Monday

Thanksgiving Day is a statutory holiday across Canada, falling on Oct. 14 this year.

For those of staying in town over the weekend, a reminder some businesses and services are closed or operating on reduced hours.

Here’s what’s open and closed in Calgary on Thanksgiving Monday.

ATTRACTIONS

BANKS

Banks will be closed on Monday

CALGARY PUBLIC LIBRARY

Calgary Public Library locations will be closed on Monday

CANADA POST

Canada Post locations will be closed on Monday, no mail will be delivered

GROCERY AND LIQUOR

Most grocery stores and liquor stores will be open through the weekend, some may have reduced hours. Check your local store for more details.

Costco locations will be closed on Monday.

LEISURE/RECREATION CENTRES

All leisure centres, indoor pools, fitness centres and arenas, arts centres, and the Calgary Soccer Centre will be closed on Monday.

The only exceptions will be public skating at Ernie Starr Arena, Rose Kohn/Jimmie Condon Arenas, and Stew Hendry/Henry Viney Arenas from 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. More information can be found here.

PARKING

People can park for free in on-street ParkPlus zones on Monday, while weekend rates will apply at Calgary Park Authority parkades and surface lots.

SHOPPING MALLS

  • CF Chinook Centre – open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • CF Market Mall – open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • CORE Shopping Centre – open 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • CrossIron Mills – open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Marlborough Mall – open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Southcentre – open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sunridge Mall – open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

TRANSIT

Calgary Transit buses and CTrains will operate on a Sunday schedule on Thanksgiving Monday. More details can be found here.

From Saturday, Oct. 12 until Monday, Oct. 14, the Red Line will be closed between 7 Street Station and Brentwood Station. Shuttle buses will replace CTrain service between the affected stations
