What’s open and closed in Calgary on Canada Day

Canada Day is upon us, and since the holiday falls on a Monday this year it means the first long weekend of the summer for many.

The holiday also means closures to some businesses and a change of schedule for others. Here’s what’s open in closed in Calgary on Canada Day:

ATTRACTIONS

BANKS

Banks will be closed on Monday

CALGARY PUBLIC LIBRARY

Calgary Public Library locations will be closed on Monday with the exception of Central Library – open 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

CANADA POST

Canada Post locations will be closed on Monday, no mail will be delivered

GROCERY AND LIQUOR

Most grocery stores and liquor stores will be open through the weekend, some may have reduced hours. Check your local store for more details.

Costco locations will be closed on Monday.

LEISURE/RECREATION CENTRES

The pools at Southland Leisure Centre and Village Square Leisure Centre will be closed on Monday.

All other Calgary arenas, indoor pools and fitness centres will be closed on Monday.

PARKING

People can park for free in on-street ParkPlus zones and Calgary Parking parkades on Canada Day, while weekend rates will apply at the Arts Commons parkade and surface lots.

SHOPPING MALLS

  • CF Chinook Centre – open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • CF Market Mall – open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • CORE Shopping Centre – open 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • CrossIron Mills – open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Marlborough Mall – open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Southcentre – open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sunridge Mall – open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

TRANSIT

Calgary Transit buses and CTrains will operate on a Sunday schedule on Canada Day. More details can be found here.

There will be no CTrain service on the Blue Line between Franklin and Whitehorn stations from Saturday until Monday at 9 a.m. Shuttle buses will run in place of trains during the closure. More information can be found here.
