Victims followed home from casino in string of violent robberies: Calgary police

Two men are facing charges in a string of violent robberies in Calgary where victims were allegedly followed home after a night out at the casino.

Calgary police say the first robbery happened around around 1:40 a.m. on Aug. 1 when a man arrived at his home in southwest Calgary after a night out at ACE Airport Casino.

It is alleged the man got out of his vehicle when two men walked up to him and pushed him to the ground. Police say the two suspects pulled out a gun and threatened the man before demanding his belongings.

The pair fled in a black sedan with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to police.

On Monday, police responded to two similar incidents where victims left the ACE Airport Casino and were followed home by suspects. In each case, the victims were allegedly approached by two men who demanded money and belongings while threatening them with a gun.

The suspects fled in a black sedan with cash in both cases.

Investigators were able to identify a suspect vehicle and arrested the suspects at the Grey Eagle Resort and Casino around 4:15 a.m. on Wednesday.

“This investigation resulted in the apprehension of two dangerous men who were targeting unsuspecting victims at their homes following an enjoyable night out,” says Acting Staff Sgt. Cory Tait in statement. “As always, we are reminding Calgarians to stay vigilant, be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity to police.”

Two Calgary men, Tyler Chabot, 31, and Anthony Vander Heide, 30, are facing four charges of armed robbery. Chabot is facing additional charges for wearing a disguise and drug possession.

The pair are expected to appear in a Calgary courtroom on Friday.

Anyone with additional information is being asked to contact police.
