Two Calgarians dead in Highway 22 crash: RCMP

Two people are dead following a crash on Highway 22 south of Calgary Tuesday evening, police say.

Claresholm RCMP responded to a serious motor vehicle accident on Highway 22, about five kilometres north of Highway 530, around 6 p.m.

Investigators believe the southbound vehicle may have crossed the centre line and collided with a northbound vehicle.

Road and weather conditions at the time may have been a factor, according to police.

A 38-year-old man from Calgary, who was driving the southbound vehicle, was declared dead at the scene.

The two occupants of the northbound vehicle were taken to a Calgary hospital in serious condition, police say.

The passenger, a 72-year-old woman from Calgary, died from her injuries in hospital.

The male driver was seriously injured and remains in hospital.

The RCMP’s Collision Reconstructionist attended the scene, and the investigation into the accident continues.

Highway 22 was closed for several hours while police investigated.
