Trudeau, Smith to meet Jasper wildfire evacuees Monday

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was in Alberta Monday to be briefed on the Jasper wildfire situation and meet evacuees from the town.

It was Trudeau’s first visit to Alberta since a massive wildfire tore through Jasper two weeks ago, destroying one-third of the popular tourist town.

The prime minister was joined in Hinton, east of Jasper National Park, by Alberta Premier Danielle Smith.

The leaders were scheduled to receive a “situational briefing” on the Jasper wildfire and meet members of the unified command.

It comes as Jasper wildfire evacuees, including those who have lost their homes or businesses in the blaze, were slated to take a bus tour of the town.

More coming.
