Tip leads to discovery of ‘drug dresser’ in Calgary home, woman charged

A drug trafficking investigation led police to discover a unique secret storage compartment in the dresser of a Calgary home, and now a woman is facing multiple charges.

Police say a CrimeStoppers tip led investigators to believe a woman was trafficking drugs in the areas of Elbow Drive and Forest Lawn.

On Wednesday, July 3, officers arrested the woman and searched homes on the 300 block of Douglas Park Boulevard SE and the 6700 block of Elbow Drive SW, as well as a 2022 Dodge Ram Rebel.

Investigators found street-level-distribution amounts of methamphetamine, cocaine, and crack cocaine, as well as more than $9,000 worth of fentanyl. Police also seized $1,105 in cash, scales, baggies, cell, phones, and a pop can with a false bottom.

During the search, officers also found a stand-up dresser in the woman’s bedroom with magnets nearby. When officers slid the magnets across the top of the dresser, it unlocked internal mechanisms that opened a false top where drugs were store.

Forty-five-year-old Jada Dee Pearce has been charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and one count of proceeds of crime.

Calgary police say more charges are pending for breach of conditions of a release order and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Pearce was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, Aug. 2.
