Thousands of dollars worth of drugs, guns, cash seized from Calgary homes

A Calgary man is facing several charges after more than half a million dollars worth of drugs and cash were seized from two homes by provincial investigators.

Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) says its organized crime team made the seizure on Aug. 13.

Two homes and a vehicle were searched with the help of the Calgary Police Service and RCMP.

Those searches uncovered five guns, $36,230 in cash, as well as powder cocaine, crack cocaine, and methamphetamine.

ALERT says the drugs have an estimated street value of $509,000.

One of the homes searched was located in the Beltline, and investigators believe it was being used to make crack cocaine.

One of the guns seized was previously reported stolen and another had its serial number removed.

ALERT says it also seized a variety of ammunition magazines, and suppressors.

Twenty-eight-year-old Huan Cao has been charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking; possession of proceeds of crime; unauthorized possession of a firearm; unsafe storage of a firearm; tampering with a serial number; and possession of a prohibited device.

The investigation began in May after receiving information on suspected drug dealers in the Calgary area.

Members of the public who suspect drug or gang activity in their community can call local police, or contact Crime Stoppers.
