Suspected impaired driver charged in crash that injured two police officers

A man is facing impaired driving charges following a crash in northwest Calgary that injured two police officers on Thursday night.

Calgary police say two officers were running a traffic stop on Beddington Trail NW near Stoney Trail and were sitting in a parked cruiser on the right side of the road.

It is alleged a silver SUV struck the parked police car and then pulled over.

Two more officers showed up and police say the those officers witnessed signs of impairment when speaking to the SUV driver. The driver refused giving a breath sample and was arrested at the scene.

Both officers in the parked cruiser were injured and treated at the scene.

Calgary police say 40-year-old Oghenetega Iyeke is facing three charges including two counts of impaired driving causing injury and one count of refusing to provide a breath sample.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court in August.
