Homicide investigators have laid a murder charge in connection with a Calgary man who disappeared nearly a year ago.
Calgary police began looking for 37-year-old Christopher Stevenson in September last year after he was last seen entering a building in the east end of downtown Calgary on Aug. 24.
Police have now determined Stevenson was murdered in August 2023 and have laid charges in his death.
Investigators say their nearly year-long investigation into his disappearance included searching a home in downtown Calgary and a rural property in Rocky View County.
“This has been an extremely complex investigation where several resources were used from across our service,” says CPS Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson in a statement. “We now believe we have a good understanding of the events leading up to Christopher’s death and the days following his murder.”
Calgary resident Shaun Alexander Folk, 47, has been charged with second-degree murder. He is scheduled to appear in court next week.
Police believe there are other people who have information about Stevenson’s death and say more charges will likely be laid.
“Our investigators are continuing to move this investigation forward and are determined to hold those involved accountable,” says Gregson.
