Stretch of CTrain Red Line closed this weekend for maintenance

A stretch of Calgary’s CTrain Red Line will be closed this weekend for maintenance.

Calgary Transit says the LRT will be shut down on Saturday and Sunday from Sunnyside to Brentwood. This will also affect Lions Park, Banff Trail, University and SAIT/AUArts/Jubilee stations.

For anyone looking to travel between Sunnyside and Brentwood stations, Calgary Transit says shuttle buses will be running in place train services.

Red Line trains traveling from the south and downtown will end at Sunnyside Station, and trains traveling from the northwest will end at Brentwood Station. Train service is expected to return on Monday morning.

Calgary Transit has discussed the reason for this closure as ongoing maintenance to ensure they’re providing Calgarians with what they call “a safe, reliable, and efficient transit system, attempting to be as minimally disruptive as possible.”

“Some work can be completed while keeping the trains on track, but there are certain projects that are just too big, or can’t share the space safely while trains are in service, and they require fully closing off sections of the line,” reads a statement on Calgary Transit’s website.

The specific weekend repairs and maintenance include lighting installation work in the 19 Street NW tunnel, and other projects as time allows.
