Southbound QEII closed north of Calgary after semi-truck rollover, chain-reaction crash

A stretch of the QEII Highway north of Calgary has been closed for several hours after a chain-reaction crash Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews were called to the southbound lanes of the highway just south of Bowden around 7:30 a.m. for reports of a semi-truck rollover.

RCMP Corp. Troy Savinoff tells CityNews a semi-truck lost control and flipped on the highway. He says a Good Samaritan stopped to help the driver out when the semi was struck by a Ford F350 that was hauling a cattle trailer.

The driver of the semi, the Good Samaritan and two occupants from the Ford F350 were all taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Savinkoff says there were three animals in the cattle trailer and one died in the crash.

Investigators remain on scene and crews are still working to tow away the two trucks involved in the crash.

Highway 2 is closed at Highway 587 in Bowden and motorists are being asked to use Highway 2A as an alternate.
