Rogers Charity Classic to donate $10 from every ticket sale to Alberta wildfire relief

The Rogers Charity Classic said Tuesday a portion of every ticket sale for next week’s tournament in Calgary will support those impacted by the devastating fires in Jasper and throughout Alberta.

The tournament says $10 from every ticket sale, up to $250,000, will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Wildfires Appeal, which is providing assistance to the province’s wildfire evacuees.

The 2024 Rogers Charity Classic is scheduled from Aug. 14 to 18 at Calgary’s Canyon Meadows Golf Club.

“As Albertans, we are saddened to see the impact the wildfires have had on thousands of families in Jasper and surrounding areas,” said tournament chairman, Jim Riddell, said in a statement. “In keeping with the charitable spirit of the Rogers Charity Classic and the mandate of the PGA TOUR Champions to support communities in need, next week Calgarians will have the opportunity to see legends of golf at Canyon Meadows while chipping-in to provide much-need financial support for the Canadian Red Cross.”

The $250,000 donation is guaranteed by the tournament’s Patreon Group, made up of Riddell, Allan Markin, Keith MacPhail, Guy Turcotte, Gary Peddle, Mike Culbert, Brad Shaw and PGA Tour Professional Stephen Ames.

The group created Canada’s only PGA TOUR Champions stop, the Rogers Charity Classic (formerly Shaw Charity Classic), in 2013.

The tournament has raised more than $100 million since its inception, supporting hundreds of children’s and youth charities in the province.

A variety of ticketing options are still available for the 2024 Rogers Charity Classic, and tickets are available for purchase at https://rogerscharityclassic.com/buytickets/

Rogers Communications launches text-to-donate

Rogers Communications also recently launched text-to-donate; Canadians can donate by texting the word ROGERS to 20222 [FR code is 30333] to make a $5 donation.

Rogers is matching new donations to the Canadian Red Cross 2024 Alberta Wildfires Appeal up to $100,000.

Provincial, federal governments also matching donations

The federal and provincial government have also previously committed to matching every dollar Canadians donate to the Canadian Red Cross 2024 Alberta Wildfires Appeal. This means every $10 donated for every ticket sale will become $30 to support those impacted by wildfires.

Donations support immediate and ongoing relief for those affected by wildfires in the province, including financial help, support to evacuees and the communities hosting them, recovery and resilience efforts in response to wildfires, and supporting community preparedness and risk reduction for all-hazard disaster events within Alberta.

Rogers is the parent company of CityNews Calgary.
