Mounties are now seeking dashcam footage in Calgary after a body, the victim of a targeted attack, was found in a fire east of the city on Wednesday.
The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit, after taking over the case, are looking for footage in Calgary’s southeast Erin Woods between the hours of 12:10 a.m. and 12:45 a.m. on Sept. 11.
“RCMP believe this was a targeted attack and do not believe there is any danger to the public,” a news release reads.
“We have a significant number of resources focused on apprehending the individual(s) responsible and on protecting the public. We ask that the public remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or tips to the Strathmore RCMP or Crime Stoppers.”
Police say just after 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 11, a woman was driving on Township Road 233 near Highway 791 in Rocky View County when she came across a fire on the side of the road.
They tell 660 NewsRadio a woman and her son went home to retrieve water and put out the fire when they found a body.
Mounties also said on Wednesday they are looking for anyone who may have dashcam footage and who was driving west or east between 12:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. on Highway 560, west of the Glenmore Trail and the Stoney Trail overpass.
Police are asking the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to Strathmore RCMP at 403-934-3535 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
