Pair facing more than 20 charges in Calgary stolen vehicle investigation

A man and woman are facing more than 20 charges after being arrested in the parking lot of a grocery store east of Calgary.

The Calgary Police Service (CPS) says throughout September, officers were made aware of a man and woman that were travelling in stolen vehicles and driving dangerously in and around Calgary on multiple occasions.

The CPS Auto Theft Team eventually identified the man as a repeat offender that was being watched by the Prolific Offender Engagement Team (POET). Police also believed he was breaching his court-ordered conditions which banned him from driving.

On Thursday, Sept. 19, police saw a stolen 2001 Chevrolet Silverado being driven by a man with a woman as a passenger. The vehicle eventually went east towards Langdon and stopped at a local grocery store.

A short time later, officers arrested the man and woman without incident in the parking lot of the Langdon Save-On Foods.

Police searched the truck and found a small amount of drugs, a semi-automatic shotgun, two cans of bear spray, a hatchet, a knife, and at least 30 stolen or fraudulent identification documents.

Michael Andrew Zielinski is facing a laundry list of charges, including possession of stolen property over $5,000, driving while suspended, dangerous driving, possession of a dangerous weapon, and possession of a controlled substance.

The 51-year-old is set to appear in court on Friday.

Twenty-five Brianna Lynne Kadatz has also been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, breach of recognizance, and 11 outstanding warrants.

She is also scheduled to be in court on Friday.
