A RCMP officer shot a suspect in Cochrane Tuesday, prompting an investigation by Alberta’s police watchdog.
Police say on April 16 just after 5 p.m., Cochrane RCMP attempted to arrest a suspect during a traffic stop in a rural area outside the town.
The suspect’s vehicle hit a police cruiser, disabling their vehicle in the process.
According to RCMP, the suspect then got out of their vehicle, prompting a confrontation with officers.
A police officer then shot the individual.
The suspect suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.
No officers or members of the public were hurt.
The incident is now under investigation by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT).
