Police are trying to find a man wanted in connection with afire in northwest Calgary in November that also several threatening letters sent to neighbours in the area.
Emergency crews were called to a fire at a house in the Hillhurst community near 8 Avenue and 17 Street NW around 3:10 a.m. on Nov. 19
Fire crews were able to quickly put out the fire. No injuries were reported and the damage to the home was minor, according to police.
Investigators deemed the fire suspicious and started an arson investigation.
Several neighbours also reported getting threatening letters left on their front steps. The notes allegedly asked for residents to send bitcoin transfers.
In an update Saturday, police say they are looking for 21-year-old Finbar Hughes who is wanted on warrants including causing fire to a home and extortion.
“Investigators have exhausted all avenues attempting to locate Hughes and are now turning to the public for help,” reads a release.
Hughes is described as approximately 6’ tall, 175 lbs., with a medium build, brown hair and blue eyes.
Anyone with information on Hughes’ whereabouts or the Hillhurst fire is being urged to contact police.
