Man in 30s charged in shooting, extortion case in NE Calgary

A man is facing several charges after allegedly shooting up a northeast Calgary home and then threatening a person who lives there.

Calgary police allege multiple shots were fired at a house on Savanna Green NE in the community of Saddle Ridge on Sept. 19 around 2:20 a.m.

Police say a man left the home later that morning and discovered bullet holes in the house and two of his vehicles. No one was injured and the man reported it to police.

On Sept. 23, the man called police again and reported getting threatening phone calls from someone who was “referring to the shooting and demanding a large sum of cash.”

Investigators were able to identify two suspects through security footage and evidence left at the scene.

Police have charged 32-year-old Gursewak Singh with seven firearm offences and one count of extortion. He will appear in court on Friday.

Charges are pending for the second suspect, according to CPS.

Investigators do not believe the incident is connected to any ongoing investigations.
