Man charged for making dozens of threatening, sexual phone calls to Alberta businesses: RCMP

A man is facing nearly three dozen charges after he allegedly made several “indecent” phone calls to businesses in Red Deer and Calgary.

Red Deer RCMP say they began investigating after getting multiple reports between November 2022 and February 2023 of phone calls made to real estate agents and people in similar lines of work.

Calgary police also began investigating reports of similar calls around the same time period.

Investigators allege the calls in each case were from a man who made threatening and sexual comments.

A joint investigation from Calgary Police Service and Red Deer RCMP led to the arrest of 29-year-old Edmonton resident Kyle Richard Shave.

“No one should have to endure threats, harassment or malicious phone calls while carrying out their work,” reads a statement from Red Deer RCMP Cst. Amanda Burke. “This kind of behavior is unacceptable.”

Shave is facing 35 charges including 22 counts of harassing communications, 12 counts of uttering threats and one count of indecent communications.

He is expected to appear in a Red Deer courtroom later this month.
