A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Calgary and most of southern Alberta as meteorologists track storms from the south that could bring strong wind and large hail.
The advisory from Environment Canada says storms that have developed in Idaho and Montana are moving north and should reach Alberta by the early evening Friday.
“Some of them will likely be severe,” says ECCC meteorologists, who add that the storms in the U.S. have brought 95 km/h winds in those regions.
ECCC issues thunderstorm watches whenever conditions are favourable for storms that could produce at least one of large hail, damaging wind, or torrential rainfall.
Some Calgarians are still dealing with the aftermath of a severe thunderstorm that rolled through the north part of the city in early August, bringing baseball-sized hail that left a mark on houses and vehicles.
