Innisfail man threw feces, attacked officers with hockey stick: RCMP

An Innisfail man is facing charges after allegedly throwing feces at officers and attacking them with a sharpened hockey stick.

Innisfail RCMP say officers responded to a home on Saturday after getting reports a suspect punched someone. Police arrested a man for assault and he was released on conditions.

On Tuesday, officer were called to the same property after getting reports the suspect had returned and therefore breached his release conditions.

When the officers arrived the suspect allegedly threatened to attack them if they entered the home. Police returned with a warrant and tried to talk the suspect into surrendering to no avail.

The officers busted in and the suspect allegedly tried to attack them with a sharpened hockey stick before throwing human feces at them. Police used pepper spray and a Taser but the suspect was able to lock himself inside a bathroom.

The RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT) arrived to help and used tear gas in the bathroom. The suspect was taken into custody shortly after.

Innisfail resident Keenan Jospeh Sziva, 29, is facing six charges including four counts of assaulting an officer with a weapon, assault, and breaching release conditions.

He is set to appear in a Red Deer courtroom on Aug. 27.
