Homicide investigation underway after body found during grass fire west of Calgary

A homicide investigation is underway after a body was found during a grass fire west of Calgary early Wednesday.

RCMP say the Tsuut’ina Nation Fire Department was responding to a fire near Range Road 40 and Highway 8 in Rocky View County around 5:30 a.m.

The crews came across human remains while working to extinguish the grass fire, police say. Cochrane RCMP and the Tsuut’ina Nation Police Service were both called in.

An autopsy on the remains was completed on Thursday and investigators say they are treating the death as a homicide.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crime Unit has since been notified and will be taking over the investigation.

No suspect information has been made available.
