Hit-and-run driver likely unaware man he drove over was on the ground; Calgary police say

A man who fell to the ground in a northeast gas station parking lot has life-altering injuries after being repeatedly run over by a likely unaware driver Saturday, Calgary police say.

Officers say it happened just before 3 p.m. in the parking lot at Centax Memorial on 4 Street NE in the Bridgeland area.

A driver of a light-coloured minivan reversed out of a stall and pulled forward, running over a man in his 40s, who police say had fallen to the ground.

The man in his 20s stopped and opened the door to look around and under the minivan before driving away, running over the man again in the process, police say.

He left, stopped briefly, and then went north on Edmonton Trail.

Investigators believe the driver was unaware of the pedestrian until he ran him over.

Excessive speed isn’t considered a factor, but police are investigating the possibility the pedestrian was impaired.

Investigators ask anyone with information about this incident to call them at 403-266-1234 or leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
